Happy Birthday to me
Sunday, June 8, 2008
Today is my Birthday. Awhile ago Ami & I were in Coldstone and I took a look at the cake catalog. They have a reeses peanut butter cup ice cream cake and I told Ami that I wanted her to make me one for my birthday. She came through! Ami did a great job on this beast of a cake and it is as good as it looks. I'm very blessed to have a wife who knows how to cook really well. Ami also got me this awesome book about outdoor survival. I love that kind of stuff! We are enjoying this awesome holiday with some relaxation at home. I grilled up some pork chops and we went for a walk too. Speaking of BBQ grills I am fairly confident that only men should bbq. We usually don't cook because its a tradition but I think I would be insulted if my wife suggested she do the grilling. Anyone else?

Wow! What a tasty cake! Since you would be insulted if I offered to bbq, I won't do that. It did make me realize something though. If you get insulted at that, you may think I would be insulted if you offered to do something like... clean the house, do the laundry, change Simon's diaper. I'm here to tell you, I would not be insulted if you suggested you do any of the above. I'm so glad we got to the bottom of this problem.
June 8, 2008 at 9:32 PMHappy Birthday, Friend!!!!! I remember one specific b-day of yours in R.S. and for some reason, Downey the dog (or was is Kenya) was like my favorite ever... weird memories.
June 9, 2008 at 1:15 AMAnyways, I'm super impressed with the cake!!! It looks so good! Way to go, Ami!
As for being insulted if a woman asks to bbq... a little misogynistic, don't ya think? It's the whole, "I'm a man. I do not dance. I chop wood. I make fire. Grunt Grunt" mentality!!! BUT I'd much rather have Taylor do it though- he's great at bbqing (he considers himself the "neighborhood grillmaster, it's a little embarrassing!) but the rule in my house goes: whoever cooks, the other one cleans afterward- and cleaning up after grilling is EASY PEASY... so I say, GRILL AWAY CHUMPS!!
I can cook but everytime I try to grill I either lose the food between the slats or catch it on fire. Anyway, Happy Birthday Jacob. Your getting old like the rest of us. Ha Ha Ha.
June 9, 2008 at 8:39 PMGrilling somehow is macho in a way that indoor cooking can't be. Maybe it's the fire, like Katy says. But I don't get why either method should be the sole domain of one spouse. I'm grateful for any assistance anywhere, anytime. Steve bbq's to give me a break as much as to enjoy "summer cuisine." Being insulted sounds too much like playground mentality to me. But I admit it's a common phenomenon in the grilling world.
